MIRI: Minister for Transport, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin has proposed the construction of a multi-storey car park at Miri Hospital to alleviate the parking problem there.
“I’m looking at the idea as a long-term planning to resolve congestion at Miri Hospital’s parking lot,” he said on Today (Sept 19).
According to the Senadin assemblyman, the present parking lot was not enough.
“700 plus 1,000 existing parking spaces are not enough as the number of staff is growing, that is why the multi-storey car park is necessary.”
Lee was met by the media after visiting the construction site for a new access road at the hospital.
The project is a corporate social responsibility initiative, supported by four private companies here, with work facilitated by the Public Works Department. Construction is expected to be done by next month.
“Once completed, this new road will help with the traffic flow within the hospital because besides using the main entrance and another road adjacent to the drive-thru pharmacy, hospital staff can also use this new access,” explained Lee.
On another note, he said there would be a plan to upgrade the 6km Padang Kerbau stretch into a dual-carriageway.
“The surrounding areas are changing rapidly, with housing estates, buildings, long-distance terminal bus being constructed here…that is why the dual-carriageway is necessary.”
The construction would be put under the 12th Malaysia Plan, he added.
