LAWAS: Sarawak will continue to uphold unity and stability under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leadership, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

With a successful tenure of 60 years, he said that unity among diverse communities living together as one family sets Sarawak apart from other regions.

“We have achieved 60 years of progress, but what truly matters is our unity. Despite our differences, we live together as one family, a bond that those at the Peninsula cannot comprehend in terms of unity,” he said at a dinner at Lawas Indoor Stadium here last night (May 27).

Speaking about the ongoing Sarawak Merdeka Convoy, which commenced in Lawas and is set to conclude in Kuching, the Premier expressed that this journey holds significant meaning for the state.

“The convoy will traverse the entire state of Sarawak, acting as a foundation to further develop the entire region,” he said.

Various activities will be organised as part of the expedition, including a digital exhibition commemorating 60 years of Sarawak’s independence.

In his speech, Abang Johari also emphasised the importance of acknowledging the sacrifices made by the state’s leaders over the past six decades, as their contributions have played a vital role in shaping Sarawak today.

“We must recognise their sacrifices, starting from the appointment of Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan as Chief Minister, up until today, where Sarawak has made tremendous progress,” he asserted.

Expressing gratitude to the members of GPS, Abang Johari acknowledged their invaluable contributions and ideas in advancing Sarawak towards its vision of becoming a high-income, developed state by 2030.

“I believe we can achieve what we desire because the economy will yield returns for us,” he said.

Also present were Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Youth, Sport, and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, and State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki.
