KUCHING: A total of 28 summonses were issued to vehicles that had exceeded the speed limit in an operation codenamed ‘Ops Utama’ on Tuesday.
The operation held along Jalan Kuching-Serian, aimed to tackle the persistent issue of speeding on the roads.
In a Facebook post, the Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department said the operation was led by the department’s staff officers ASP Mohd Azlizi and Insp Petrus together with 11 traffic policemen.
Throughout the operation, a total of 181 vehicles were inspected – 98 cars, 30 motorcycles, 20 lorries, 18 pickup trucks, and 15 multi-purpose vehicles.
No stone was left unturned in the police’s efforts to ensure road safety and enforce traffic regulations.
To maintain order and emphasise the importance of responsible driving, the operation resulted in the issuance of 103 Pol 257 summonses
Of the figure, 28 were specifically for exceeding the speed limit.
Speeding remains a serious concern in the country and in the state due to its inherent dangers as it does not only increase the likelihood of accidents but also reduces the driver’s ability to react promptly to unexpected situations.
With that, the department reminds road users to always prioritise safety and abide by the traffic rules and regulations.
