MIRI: Despite drizzle early this morning, more than 2,000 participants from diverse backgrounds gathered at the Miri Hua Guang Buddhist Temple in Taman Tunku here for a charity event where free rice bags were distributed.

The event experienced a minor incident when a middle-aged woman nearly fainted.

Senadin assemblyman, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, was present to distribute a total of 1,300 bags of 10kg rice which started at 8 am, with the assistance from temple staff and volunteers.

The event saw an overwhelming response, with people arriving as early as 4 am causing traffic congestion on the roads leading to the temple.
