KUCHING: Outgoing Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Secretary Pele Peter Tinggom was sworn in as a Senator at the Dewan Negara yesterday (Mar 5).
The 53-year-old took his oath before Dewan Negara President Datuk Mutang Tagal in Kuala Lumpur.
His appointment, which received consent from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, will be effective Mar 5, 2024 until Jan 4, 2027.
Two others namely Datuk Bobbery Ah Fang Suan and Anna Bell@Suzieana Perian also took their oaths as Senators.
Pele is the son of the late Datuk Seri Peter Tinggom Kamarau, a former Saratok MP, former Deputy Minister of Works and former Deputy Minister for National Unity and Social Development.
Hailing from Saratok, he graduated in 1996 from Anglia Ruskin University, UK (formerly known as Anglia Polytechnic University) with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours).
Pele also attained a Diploma in Management (Executive) from Australian Institute of Management (AIM), Western Australia University in 2002, and passed the examination in Accounting, Financial Statement Analysis and Asset Valuation from the Securities Commission of Malaysia in 2000.
He began his career in the private sector, working with a legal firm in Kuching and a dealer representative/broker with Kenanga Investment Bank from 1998 to 2001.
In Feb 2002, Pele joined the Sarawak civil service as an assistant secretary at the State Financial Secretary Office.
Since then, he continued his career as a civil servant at the Ministry of Public Utilities Sarawak, Regional Corridor of Development Authority (RECODA), Sarawak DUN, Prime Minister’s Department, Putrajaya and Ministry of Utilities Sarawak.
Serving in the Sarawak DUN is not new to Pele as he was the Parliamentary Officer from July 2009 to Jan 2010, Deputy Secretary of DUN from Feb 2011 to May 2015, and Secretary of DUN from Sept 3, 2019 until Mar 5, 2024.
In 2019, he also completed the Certified Integrity Officer (CeIO) Programme under the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Academy (MACA) and appointed as a certified trainer for National Anti-Corruption Plan (TOT-NACP) by Integrity Institute Malaysia.
