Two fined for stealing generator battery

SIBU: The Magistrate’s Court yesterday fined two men RM4,000 in default of 12 month’s imprisonment each, for stealing a unit of NS70 generator battery.

Sim Suk Chung, 35, of Bintangor, and Wong Gim Hing, 43, from Jalan Embang pleaded guilty to the joint charge read and explained to them before Magistrate Romario Jonol.

They were indicted for intentionally taken with dishonesty a unit of NS70 battery out of possession of the Sapura SBC Company without its consent, thus committed theft which is an offence punishable Section 379 of the Penal Code.

The offence took place at the Sapura SBC Telecommunication Tower located at Durin town on Feb 26 at about 3.34 pm.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Kumareswaran Murugan told the court that on Feb 28 at about 10 pm, at Sapura SBC Telecommunication tower at Durin town, the complainant found one unit of NS70 generator battery which was installed on one diesel generator set has been stolen.

A review of the closed-circuit television (CCTV) recording found that two unknown men had stolen the battery and caused some damages to the tower.

Acting on information, both accused were subsequently arrested following which the
stolen battery was recovered by police.

Sim and Wong who were unrepresented, opted to pay their fines.
