KUCHING: The state government may create a channel for the public, especially netizens, to lodge complaints if they suspect that development projects are not following specifications or being delayed.

This was revealed by Minister in the Premier’s Office (Corporate Affairs, Information and Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS)) Datuk Abdullah Saidol.

He said the recent viralled issue of a belian wood jetty in a village had
caught the attention of the Sarawak Premier datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

“Thus, the state government will figure out a way or a channel for the public to make complaints if they think development projects have problems.

“Whether the projects are not according to the specifications required or late, the people can send their complaints to the authorities,” he said after distributing ‘bubur lambuk’ (savoury porridge) at Emart Express Sukma, yesterday.

He pointed out that most projects had been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic two years ago.

“Hence, we will study first how the people can reach out to the government or authorities to make their complaints regarding certain development projects,” he said.

Apart from that, Abdullah also said the public could also report this to the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) if there was a breach of trust in the development projects.

He said that MACC was ready to help and investigate to see whether they are a breach of trust on project funds or was it misused for other purpose by certain parties.

“If they need to report it to MACC, they can do so. Surely the commission will help to investigate it to find where the money is being used,” he said.
