Barbershops, hair saloons to open Tuesday

KUCHING: Barbershops and hair saloons are finally allowed to resume operation effective next Tuesday (June 9).

However, Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas stressed that the operation shall focus strictly on hair-cutting activities only.

“No facial and other services are allowed,” he said during a daily press conference on Covid-19 update yesterday.

Uggah said SDMC would provide a detailed standard operating procedure (SOP) shortly.

He added that the operation of barbershops and hair saloons must ensure minimal contact. They must frequently change scissors especially in the event of customers showing symptoms of Covid-19 infection like coughing, etc.

He also said SDMC had good news for joggers as several nature reserve parks would be allowed to resume operations too.

“These nature reserve parks are Samajaya, Bukit Lima, Bukit Sembiling and Piasau. These places will be allowed to operate effective next Monday (June 8) with the condition that they must comply with the SOP issued for them,” he said.

Asked on the operation of tuition centres, Uggah said the matter had yet to be decided.

“We (SDMC) are still working out the SOPs for education institutions including schools and kindergartens,” he said.

On Wednesday (June 3), Uggah announced that the SDMC was in the midst of fine-tuning the SOP for reopening of recreational parks, hairdressers, gymnasia, fitness centres and photograph shops in view of the continued reduction in Covid-19 cases in the state.
