THE passing of Senator Datuk Mutang Tagal is a huge loss to the nation, Sarawak, the legal fraternity, and the business community.

Expressing his condolences to the late’s family, Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki highlighted Mutang’s historical achievement as the first Dayak Senate President in February this year.

“He was a true Anak Sarawak and a proud Lun Bawang. May his soul rest in peace,” Ibrahim said during the debate in support of the motion of appreciation for the Head of State’s address on the fifth day of the 19th Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting.

Mutang passed away at 11.46 am today (May 10) at the age of 70. He had been receiving treatment at the National Heart Institute after falling ill during a working trip to Azerbaijan on May 6.

Mutang was first elected as the MP for Bukit Mas at the age of 27 in 1982, serving until 1990. He later became a corporate figure and contributed his experience and expertise to various associations.
