BEYOND her role as an assemblywoman for Bekenu, Datuk Rosey Yunus is a devoted family woman and a passionate nature enthusiast.
Her warm and motherly aura is palpable in every conversation, always accompanied by a radiant smile.
In an exclusive interview with the New Sarawak Tribune, Rosey, who is also Deputy Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Development, shared insights into her love for flowers and family life.
New Sarawak Tribune: What do you usually do during your free?
Rosey: Usually when I have free time, I look at the flowers in my garden. Because people say the orchids usually like it when we talk to them. That is why I would spend time at my flower garden to talk with them. It’s relaxing as well to see how beautiful they are.
What are your hobbies?
Apart from gardening, I like to sing and dance. But I am not a professional singer or dancer. I cannot dance ballet or other dances. Just a little dance as what Sarawakians like to say ‘bertandak’.
What is the most interesting place for you?
Everywhere is interesting for me because I like to travel but it does not have to be very far. It can be in the city, the forest, the river, the farm, and even the pond. Out of all these places, I think the most interesting place for me would be the farm. Looking at the fruits and the flowers gives me satisfaction.
How do you juggle your time to serve the people and spend time with your family?
As I travel a lot, the only time I have for my family is during mealtime. So, when I have time and when I’m at home, I cook for my family and the whole big family will eat together at the dining table. That is the only time we can bond and catch up with everyone’s life.
Who is your favourite singer?
I don’t have anyone in particular but I like singers that have calming songs and also those who render songs that make me want to dance. Maybe I would say someone like Zainal Abidin along with all the ‘old generation’ singers. There is just something about their music that I like.
