KUCHING: The RM1.4 billion Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS) 6.0 financial package is a manifestation of the Sarawak government’s concern for the people.

Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said that only a caring government would do what the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government led by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg is doing.

“This is not the first BKSS or the first state government assistance, but the sixth one.

“Sarawak is blessed to have a leader like Abang Johari helming it. He is someone who can feel the heart beat of the people especially in this time of need,” he told New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.

The Asajaya assemblyman also said such assistance would help those who are particularly affected by the enforcement of the state’s second movement control order (MCO).

“The type of help given out this time will definitely be able to reduce the burden of the sectors that are named as recipients,” said Abdul Karim.

Abang Johari on Friday announced the BKSS 6.0 worth RM1.4 billion to help Sarawakians during the two-week MCO which runs until June 11 to curb the spread of Covid-19.

The BKSS 6.0 encompasses 15 measures, of which eight measures involve cash payout and seven involve discount incentives.

The new package, among others, provided cash assistance to B40s and single individuals aged 21 and above, frontline workers, hawkers and petty traders, boat operators, e-hailing drivers, the tourism sector, and others affected by the MCO.

It also included giving discounts to electricity, water, assessment rates, and rentals to eligible recipients.
