A record high 203 cases in Sarawak

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 203 new positive Covid-19 cases today, a new record high for the state.

Of the number, 120 cases were recorded in Sibu, Kanowit (43), Kuching (12), Betong (eight), Bintulu and Samarahan (five each), Miri (four), Dalat (three), while Kapit, Pakan and Serian each recorded one case.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement said this brings the total number of cases in Sarawak to 2,570 to date.

In Sibu District, 78 of the cases involved the Pasai Cluster and were categorised as locally transmitted cases while 40 other cases involved individuals who went for screenings at health centres and two cases of individuals who returned from high risk areas namely Selangor and Labuan.

All the cases recorded in Kanowit, Betong and Dalat districts involved the Pasai Cluster.

For Kuching District, ten cases were detected through screening due to close contact with Covid-19 positive cases and categorised as locally transmitted while the other two are Import C cases as they involved the Pasai Cluster in Sibu.

Four cases recorded in Bintulu District also involved the Pasai Cluster while the other is a locally transmitted case detected through screening due to the Covid-19 symptoms.

Samarahan District recorded five cases – four catergorised as Import-C case from Kuching and the other categorised as a locally transmitted case.

There were two new cases recorded involving the Jelita Cluster in Miri District while the other two cases were categorised as locally transmitted case with symptoms detected through screening.

An Import-C case from Sibu involving the Pasai Cluster was recorded in Kapit District. 

Pakan District and Serian District each recorded one locally transmitted case with symptoms detected through screening.

Meanwhile, there are still eight active Covid-19 clusters in the state with Pasai Cluster in Sibu District recording the highest number of 893 cases.

The two active clusters in Kuching District are Stutong Cluster (40 cases) and Keranji Tabuan Cluster (15 cases) while Miri District has three active clusters namely Bah Sayap Cluster (91 cases), Jelita Cluster (35 cases) and Rakut Cluster (10 cases).

Mador Cluster in Meradong District has eight cases and Bukit Sekubong Cluster in Sebauh District has 26 cases.
