A tumultuous year we do not miss

A Covid-19 medal be instituted to honour heroic frontline / essential services workers.

Indeed, the year 2022 will go down in history as a tumultuous year defined by a monstrous pandemic, unprecedented climate change, global inflation, much feared economic recession and as if not enough, to add to more human sufferings the escalation of the inhuman wars and military conflicts particularly in 1st world Europe, the African continent and the traditional troubled spots of the world.

Some human self-interest has been the fundamental cause of what we see in the not so much envious world we have today.

It appears that this country after six decades of torrential rains and thunderstorms, within reach of a much-dreaded tsunami, has suddenly sighted the long prayed-for rainbows and, hopefully, a ray of sunshine that will be there long enough to let people start building a new life again. Not only here, but all over the world, the situation is incredibly untenable.

For this, we shall continue to pray for Divine intervention, for conscience to dictate, and, for common sense to prevail, so we can continue to lead a happy, harmonious and peaceful life in our multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, multi-religious and multi-lingual country.

We are still far, far away from the Utopia and the paradise we are all praying for. Many issues must be addressed to solve some fundamental problems we have today, and to heal the wounds in some serious human relationships, which have made many countries less than perfect.

I strongly feel that at the family level, society and the nation at large should change their mindset to achieve the maximum benefit under the sun after the sighting of rainbows.

Let’s not be self-centred, but instead, take care of all, give hope to all, and love all who have looked after them ..but not abandon them in their hour of need.

Climate change is, without a doubt, a monumental manmade disaster! At first, due to ignorance, we used fossil fuels to power our economic growth and when greed took over human rational, we continue to exploit fossil fuels (coals and petroleum) until now that we have released so much carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases that we have caused global warming and disrupted the ocean circulations and causing localised warming and cooling of the atmosphere. The impacts of such disruptions are extreme weather – storms and floods in one part and droughts in another, the warmest winter in London but coldest in Chicago! Reversal of global warming is the key, and to do that we need to achieve net zero emissions soonest possible! Most countries pledge by 2050 to achieve net zero CO2 emission. Until and unless there are firm commitments from all countries, the situation will get no better, making the planet uninhabitable!
Where can we go? We have only one planet!
Stop exporting, importing and using coal — one of the worst things that promote pollution. One of the cleanest renewable energy sources is wind energy. We should explore this God-given energy to power our future growth. The technology has matured and is reliable.
Solar energy is desirable, but implementation is a huge problem, created by man again!

At this most challenging time, my thoughts and prayers are with the majority of people in the world, who are suffering the most. Their children, their women, the sick, the disabled and the vulnerable. Life is unbearable for them.

In 2022 the world lost its model and ideal sovereign ruler, a grandmother the world loved, the late Queen Elizabeth ll, head of the Commonwealth and Succeeded by King Charles the third, a world-renowned environmentalist to lead the Commonwealth and the world to a greener world.

Also in my thoughts and prayers, are the Medical front liners, Doctors and Nurses, supporting staff, cleaners, essential services such as Fire and Rescue, Police, Immigration, Armed Forces, the media and the Judiciary, the staff of Eateries, and the banks. We thank them for keeping us safe. I appeal to the government to officially recognise their magnificent efforts in the last three years. These are the heroes. I salute them.
A Covid 19 medal be instituted to honour them.

A BILL TO ENACT ….
My grateful and profuse thanks to the Federal and Sarawak governments for supporting my campaign, over many years, to get CPR trained in all institutions of learning across the country, and also the AED to supplement the life-saving skill, CPR.
But unfortunately, due to so many changes in the Federal government after the 14th General Election, nothing concrete has been done in the form of enacting legislation by the Federal Health Ministry and Education Ministry.
We just had seen a new Unity Government sworn in.
Hopefully, through the leadership of incumbent Prime Minister, YAB DATUK SERI ANWAR IBRAHIM, expected to be the new President of St. John Ambulance, by the St, John Ambulance Act 1972, the relevant legislation will be introduced.
I am cautiously optimistic that the long cherished dream will materialise under the present administration, as the Prime Minister is concerned about the wellbeing of the people. I strongly appeal to the Prime Minister to help to save many lives, lost unnecessarily due to many who are not trained in this simple lifesaving skill. Doctors, Nurses and ambulances will not be overwhelmed as well. This will help, as the war against COVID-19 is far from being over, cases are surging, the extreme Climate Change is making life untenable, and the uncontrollable wildfires and Arctic temperatures we are witnessing now.
Together, let’s make 2023 a year to remember.
