KUCHING: Extending an invitation to the leadership of opposition parties to be part of the National Recovery Council (MPN) and the Special Committee on Covid-19 is a very inclusive move and this gesture should be accepted in good faith, said Datuk Seri Doris Brodie.

The Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Women chief said this when commenting on such invitation extended by Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob in his maiden national address as Prime Minister on Sunday.

“More importantly, it will eradicate finger pointing and blame game in so far as tackling the Covid-19 pandemic is concerned, considering that it is a joint concerted effort by both political divides. It is a way forward for Malaysia,” she said when contacted today (Aug 24).

She believed that it was about time politics were put aside.

“We have been through political turbulence for the past 39 months and have been recognised on the world map for the wrong reasons; the transition of two governments and three prime ministers to date and an escalating number of Covid-19 cases,” she said.

She pointed out that the populace was restless, stressed and exhausted over the political upheaval since the 14th General Election (GE14).

She said the prevailing pandemic that struck the country since March last year had further dampened the situation.

“What matters to the people now is for Malaysia to bounce back healthy and economically competent. This needs all parties to work together and rise above whatever differences,” she said.

Doris, who is also a political secretary to the chief minister, also expressed her agreement with the Prime Minister urging that all parties put an end to power struggles and that political stability must be attained as soon as possible.

“Let’s give him a chance to administer this country and support him in fighting this Covid-19 pandemic and to revive our economy,” she appealed.

After all, she said, there were only approximately 20 months left before the 15th General Election (GE15).

“We can exercise our democratic rights and battle it out there and then. Whoever wins will administer and rule this country, but for now all political leaders from both divides must come together and take the lead as true blue Malaysians and strive to heal this nation,” said Doris.
