KUCHING: Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Chamber (DUBS) chairman Datuk Abang Helmi Ikhwan has been appointed as one of the Economic Action Council (EAC) members.

In a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Monday, the appointment of Abang Helmi together with Datuk Bridget Lai @ Bridget Anne Ching Hung Yee from Sabah was to represent East Malaysia in the council.

The decision, according to the statement, was made during the council’s meeting on Monday.

The addition of the two economic experts in the council brings the total number of EAC members to 13.

It also stated that the EAC is aware of the outcry faced by the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

Thus, the EAC urged landlords to consider reducing or waiving rent charge for business which has been affected by the movement control order (MCO).

“To ease the burden of the business tenants, all owners of business premises are urged to consider giving discounts or deferments or exemptions on rent payments for tenants that cannot operate during MCO.
