KUCHING: The chief minister’s opening speech at the inaugural Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Convention 2019 yesterday definitely inspired some 5,000 delegates there, said Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Sebastian Ting.

“Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari’s speech was excellent and it set the mood that we, Sarawakians, are here under GPS to safeguard and protect Sarawak,” he said when met by New Sarawak Tribune after the convention’s opening ceremony yesterday.

He felt that the inaugural convention was indeed timely, as GPS would be celebrating its first anniversary in just six days’ time, having been officially registered on November 22 last year.

Ting said the CM’s core theme of ensuring that Sarawak’s rights are looked after was indeed a vital message to all the delegates.

“All of us must go down and spread what has been said by our chief minister ― that we must protect and look after Sarawak well, especially for our children and our future generations,” Ting stated.

He quoted former chief minister, the late Tok Nan (Pehin Sri Adenan Satem) ― ‘Jaga Sarawak baik-baik’ (Take good care of Sarawak).

He also pointed out the key issues which had to be addressed in terms of Sarawak’s rights, such as immigration autonomy, oil and gas resources and territorial rights.
