KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg attended Majlis Qurban Perdana Aidiladha at Dewan Hikmah in Petrajaya here today.
According to Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) in a news report, the event was organised by Sarawak Islamic Council (SIC) and began with the recitation of prayers.
Later, Abang Johari graced the ibadah korban (ritual of sacrifice) and handed over the sacrificial meat to 100 asnaf families (eligible recipients of tithe).
Meanwhile, Premier’s wife Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Julaihi Narawi; Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi; Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Dr Hazland Abang Hipni; Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali; acting State Secretary Datuk Sri Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki; SIC president Datuk Misnu Taha and Sarawak Mufti Datu Kipli Yassin were among those who present at the event.
Later, when met by reporters, Misnu said that the SIC has provided a total of 166 cows for ibadah korban in the Kuching division this year.
“Apart from having the opportunity to perform the ibadah korban in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha, we also had the opportunity to distribute 100 packets of sacrificial meat to the poor,” he said.
