KUCHING: The Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UPKS) under the Premier’s Department has grown rapidly since undergoing restructuring in 2017.

Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg said the unit has seen an additional strength in assets, infrastructure, and human capital.

He said this has enabled the unit to carry out tasks and operations on land, serving the people Sarawak’s security needs.

The Premier commended the performance of UPKS, thanks to the well-trained and committed personnel.

“As such, UPKS will be able to complement the efforts of other security agencies to manage Sarawak’s security better,” he said during the UPKS 2022 ceremonial dinner at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) on Monday (Sept 26).

Themed ‘Towards Ubiquitous Security’, the dinner was attended by 58 UPKS officers and their spouses.

Also present were Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, DUN speaker Tan Sri Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, State Secretary Datuk Seri Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuk and UPKS director Datuk Dr Chai Khin Chung.
