KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg received a courtesy call besides witnessing the handover of zakat or tithes and a memorandum of understanding (MOU) exchange at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here on Friday (Jan 28).

He received a courtesy call from federal Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar and later witnessed the Bank Rakyat business zakat handover ceremony for the financial year ending 2020.

On behalf of Bank Rakyat, Noh Omar handed over the zakat amounting to RM1,252,323 to Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak, which was received by Sarawak Islamic Council president Datuk Misnu Taha.

Abang Johari also witnessed the exchange of MOU between Bank Rakyat represented by its chief executive officer Datuk Syed Abdul Aziz Syed Hassan with two state government agencies namely Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) represented by its chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr Abdul Aziz Hussain and Sarawak Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment (Mintred) represented by its acting Permanent Secretary Dzulkornain Masron.

The MOU exchanged is aimed at further strengthening entrepreneurial initiatives in Sarawak.
