KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg received two courtesy calls at his office in Wisma Bapa Malaysia on Thursday (Sept 9).

The first courtesy call was from Plantation Industries and Commodities (MPIC) Minister, Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin.

During the brief meeting, they discussed the direction of the commodity industry, especially the oil palm and pepper industries in Sarawak.

Sarawak currently accounts for one-third of the country’s oil palm production, and is planning to reduce its dependence on external labour.

The state is in the process of testing machines to harvest oil palm fruits to increase yields.

Abang Johari later received a visit by committee members of Sarawak state-level Malaysia Day Celebration 2021, led by Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin. The committee members included Assistant Minister of Women, Family and Childhood Development Datuk Rosey Yunus and Assistant Minister of Local Government Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil.
