Abang Johari returns unopposed as PBB president

Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Deputy President Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

KUCHING: Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has retained his post as president of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) for the 2022-2025 term.

He was returned unopposed during the nomination of the PBB Supreme Council which was held today (June 11).

The deputy presidents are Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan who also retained their respective post uncontested.

The party’s senior vice presidents are Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof and Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom who replaces Datuk Amar Michael Manyin Jawong.

The vice-presidents are Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu, Datuk Julaihi Narawi, Dr. Annuar Rapaee, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn, Datuk Dr. Abdul Rahman Junaidi and Datuk Gerawat Gala. Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah is the Women chief while Miro Simuh is the party’s Youth chief.

Uggah, who is a Deputy Premier said the no-contest for the party’s top posts showed the full support of members from all PBB branches to the top leadership of the party.

“This is also a testament of the grassroots’ full confidence towards Premier (Abang Johari) to continue to lead PBB and Sarawak towards victory and prosperity,” he said in a press conference after a preparatory meeting for the PBB triennial general meeting (TGM) which will be held on June 16 to 19.

Uggah also said that the results showed that the party had succeeded in strengthening unity in continuing the party’s struggle for the future of Sarawak.
Meanwhile, PBB election officer Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah said all the 82 party branches had agreed on the nominations for the supreme council post.

“For the Pesaka Committee, we received 24 nominations but 10 candidates withdrew so the 14 members won without contesting.
“Meanwhile, the Bumiputera Committee received 23 nominations, one person withdrew, so 22 will contest for the 16 positions in the supreme council,” said Awang Bemee.

Some 2,420 delegates are expected to attend the upcoming TGM which will be officiated at by Abang Johari.

Also present at the press conference were PBB deputy secretary general Datuk Ibrahim Baki and information chief Datuk Idris Buang.
