Abang Johari to launch the WCIT2023 held on October 4 to 6

KUCHING: The Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Abdul Rahman Johari Tun Openg was invited to launch the 27th World Congress on Innovation and Technology 2023 (WCIT2023) in a recent courtesy call.

The courtesy call led by the chairman of Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani at Wisma Bapa Malaysia on January 18 was to brief and invite Abang Johari to launch WCIT2023 that will be held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) from October 4 to 6.

It was mentioned in a press release by UKAS today that the key theme, Fulfilling The Promise of The Digital Age focusing on Innovation and Technology Driving Economic Prosperity, Social Inclusivity and Environmental Sustainability, WCIT2023 will include discussions to debate the implications in technology advancement to legal, political and economic trends affecting IT business processes, presentations of innovative solutions from emerging, new and the latest breakthrough technologies.

“This also includes B2B and G2G meetings to identify and secure new investment opportunities for various industrial domains from healthcare, transport and logistics, defence, oil and gas to the finance sector.

“According to SDEC, WCIT 2023 will witness world leaders, policy makers, academics and digital communities from science, technology, and the humanities converge to discuss existing challenges and approaches related to the digital age in the Borneo region,” it said.

As for information, SDEC on behalf of the Sarawak government won the bid to host this year’s WCIT on September 15, 2022 during WCIT2022 in Penang and received unanimous approval by the committee of WITSA.

Besides, the 27th instalment of WCIT will be a three-day event featuring more than 2500 delegates, 80 countries and 200 speakers from the industry, government leaders and academics.

Also accompanying the courtesy call was Chairman of World Innovation, Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA), Dr Sean Seah, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of WITSA, Datuk Dan E Khoo, Chairman of PIKOM, Ong Chin Seong and CEO of PIKOM Ong Kian Yew.
