KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his entourage yesterday visited the Port of Rotterdam, Netherland.

According to his press secretary Ambrose Cheng in a Facebook post yesterday, they had a close look at the development and operation of the world’s fifth largest port.

In the afternoon, Abang Johari and his entourage visited the Shell Technology Centre in Amsterdam.

The day before (Monday, May 9), the premier delivered a keynote address at the World Hydrogen 2022 Summit and Exhibition at Rotterdam held from May 9 to 11.

During a short visit to Shell’s booth he looked at the latest hydrogen technology developed by the company.

Abang Johari also attended a briefing by Shell at the venue before going to Shell’s office in The Hague where he was briefed on the company’s overall operations in Sarawak and the prospects for further development and cooperation.

The delegation is expected to fly to Oslo, Norway today (May 11) to gain some insight into Norway’s sovereign wealth funds that the premier has indicated will be a model for a similar fund to be set up by the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government to get more returns for excess funds that Sarawak might accumulate in the future.

Also in the delegation are Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, State Secretary Datuk Amar Jaul Samion, Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, State Financial Secretary Datuk Seri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, Economic Planning Unit director Datuk Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel; SEDC chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Abdul Aziz Hussain; Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) chairman Datuk Amar Hamed Sepawi; and SEB CEO Datuk Sharbini Suhaili.
