KUCHING: The late Tan Sri Abang Khalid Abang Marzuki was laid to rest after Maghrib prayers on Friday.

Before the burial, state leaders including Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg; Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri; Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki; Samariang assemblywoman Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, and others paid their last respects to the late Abang Khalid.

His remains were brought back to Kuching from Kuala Lumpur, arriving at the Kuching International Airport at 5pm.

Upon arriving, the remains of the late Abang Khalid were taken to his house at Jalan Muda Hashim here where residents flocked to pay their last respects.

Many of the villagers followed along to the Samariang Muslim Cemetery for the burial, making the atmosphere at the residential area gloomy and quiet.

Many acquaintances from various races and ethnicities also attended the burial ceremony to pay their last respects to the late entrepreneur and president of the Sarawak branch Malay Vehicle Importers and Traders Association of Malaysia (Pekema).

The late Abang Khalid, 74, breathed his last at 5.43am on Friday at Pantai Hospital, Bangsar, in Kuala Lumpur. He was diagnosed with bowel cancer.
