KUCHING:  Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah is hoping for the new Football Association Sarawak (FAS) leadership to improve the standard of soccer and resolve issues plaguing the sport.

Congratulating newly minted president Abang Zulkarnain Abang Abdul Rahman on his appointment, the Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Minister wants the late payment of players’ salary to be a thing of the past.

“Abang Zulkarnain has been accepted by the affiliates as the leader who will be able to lead the team to greater heights.

“I hope that he will be able to fulfil his roles and responsibilities until the association’s next annual general meeting (AGM) in two years,” he said today (Jan 31).

At the same time, Abdul Karim hoped to see the state footballers rise and bring glory to Sarawak.

He said FAS must have a strategic plan to change the direction of the association to a higher level.

For the record, Abang Zulkarnain was appointed to lead FAS for the 2023-2025 term on Jan 28 with Abang Suhordie Abang Zaini as his deputy president.
