SPAOH: Sarawak’s path ahead will be full of challenges but its people will stand by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“We are all for you (Abang Johari). We will not let you stand alone. We will give you our full support as you have shown your wisdom and brilliance in leading us so far,” Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said this at an event attended by Abang Johari and other state dignitaries here yesterday.

Uggah said Abang Johari too had been delivering all his promises to the people.

“Your past approvals of projects are not mere announcements. While many have been implemented, others have just started,” he said, adding that in contrast, the PH government had yet to deliver the many promises it had made.

The inability to deliver on the promises, according to Uggah, had made life difficult for the rakyat.

On agriculture, Uggah, who is Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development Minister, said the areas stretching from Betong Division to Sarikei Division had been declared as the state food basket area.

He said more agro parks should be created to spearhead its development.

He also said there was a need for good drainage system so that the huge peat soil area there could be better managed for agriculture.

On another matter, Uggah thanked Abang Johari for providing airfare subsidies to Sarawakian students returning home for all major communal celebrations.

He said some 1,000 students had applied for the subsidies in conjunction with the recent Chinese New Year celebration.

At the function later, some 470 NCR landowners here received 686 titles to their land from Abang Johari.
