KUCHING: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof recently engaged in discussions with Mohamed Jameel Al Rahami, the chief executive officer of Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (MASDAR) to explore potential investments in renewable energy projects in Sarawak.

According to a statement today (Nov 2), this collaboration follows MASDAR’s earlier commitment in October, where the company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA).

The MoU outlined an investment of USD8bil for up to 10 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy projects. This strategic partnership is poised to significantly contribute to Malaysia’s sustainable energy transformation.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan extended a welcome to MASDAR, urging the company to explore investment opportunities in Sarawak.

He highlighted the state’s emphasis on fostering the growth of green renewable energy, particularly solar energy, aligning with Sarawak’s sustainable economic development.

“Sarawak is very committed and serious in developing carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) and has put in place the rules, regulations and standards to facilitate the development of this industry, one of the first in the region,” he said in a statement.
