Accident claims young life and lorry narrowly escapes fire in separate incidents

KUCHING: A collision between a motorcycle and a scavenger truck at Mile 10 Jalan Kuching-Serian today claimed the life of the 24-year-old motorcyclist.

Responding promptly to an urgent call from a local hospital at 6.39 am, the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) dispatched the Siburan Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) to the accident site.

Upon arrival, the Bomba personnel saw a motorcyclist unconscious on the road following a collision between his bike and a Trinekens truck.

Despite efforts by emergency medical personnel the victim succumbed to his injuries. The police took over the necessary procedures following the incident.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a lorry carrying a load of sand narrowly escaped a fire at Siam Junction Bintulu-Tatau Road earlier that same day at 8.47 am.

Bomba responded swiftly to the fire alert, deploying a team from the Tatau fire station to the scene.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a lorry engulfed by flames in its front section. Fortunately, the driver managed to escape. There were no reports of injuries or fatalities.

Quick action from the firefighting team ensued, employing main branch lines and a tanker vehicle to control and extinguish the fire. Investigation into the cause of the fire is currently ongoing.
