MIRI: An accused was found dead hanging from a hose tied to a grille in a toilet of a lock-up in a court here yesterday afternoon. In the incident at about 12.30pm, the accused Mohd Firdaus Abdullah, 25, was found by police hanging from a hose tied to the grille of a toilet.

When paramedics arrived at the scene, they confirmed that the suspect has died. Prior to the incident, the accused pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court to a charge of having three knives without valid permission.

The accused, who was arrested on Sunday, was charged with committing the offence under Section 6 (1) of the Explosive Corrosive and Hazardous Weapons Act, 1958.

Judge Steve Ritikos allowed him to be released on bail of RM7,000 with one local guarantor while waiting for the case management. However, the accused is believed to have failed to pay the bail which caused him to be detained.

Miri District Police chief, Lim Meng Seah confirmed the incident. The case has been classified as sudden death and the body of the accused was taken to Miri Hospital for a post mortem.
