On July 22, 2021, Sarawak launched its PCDS 2030, aimed at driving the state into a thriving society driven by data and innovation where everyone enjoys economic prosperity, social inclusivity and sustainable environment.

In terms of economic prosperity, Abang Johari said that the state aims to double the size of its economy from RM136 billion in 2019 to RM282 billion in 2030.

“To achieve this target, Sarawak’s economy needs to grow on average 8.0 per cent per annum until 2030.

“We are now undertaking massive infrastructure development to facilitate economic and investment activities.

“To do this, we are using creative financial modelling through revenue reengineering and alternative funding methods to ensure a healthy fiscal position,” he said.

The plan outlined seven strategic thrusts to accelerate growth, anchored on six economic sectors and seven enablers.

Core objectives of the PCDS 2030 are to change the economic structure, to modernise and increase efficiency, to increase household income to gross domestic product (GDP) share and to place environmental sustainability in the state’s recovery efforts and long-term economic growth.
