MIRI: Various activities have been lined up for several homeless people to improve their lives.
They are currently housed at the Miri Red Crescent multipurpose hall here since the implementation of the movement control order (MCO).
“Currently, we have 26 homeless people here, and we have carried out numerous activities with them besides giving religious teaching (for Muslims),” said Sarywati Fatyrin Japadulin, the person in charge of the temporary shelter, who is also the assistant community development officer of Miri Welfare Department.
“We want to make a difference in their lives by reaching out to them via useful activities, sharing skills with them so that they can improve their lives.”
The activities included early morning exercise and preparing evening meals for breaking fast together.
“We also offer moral support to them,” she added.
She said they wanted to create and give homeless people something positive to do with the aim of building their self-esteem and developing their skills.
Such activities, she said, were important in preventing boredom that might lead them to go back to the streets.
