KUCHING: The Sarawak government has approved an addition of 400 surveyors in the state Land and Survey Department (JTS) to meet the needs and preparations towards being a developed state by 2030.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that the additional number is important so that it can speed up the measurement work while ensuring that all planning is carried out properly.
“We need to add 400 more surveyors in JTS by 2030. At the same time, the private sector also needs to increase their number of surveyors.
“This is because JTS has their own limitations, so we will need the surveyors from the private sector to also carry out land surveying work that we need in the state,” he said.
He said this when officiating at the closing ceremony of the Innovation and Integrity Day of the Land and Survey Sarawak (HIITS) at Riverside Majestic Hotel here on Saturday (Sept 18) evening.
Following this, Abang Johari said that the State government has several policies that will transform the state’s economy and all of them depend on land.
According to him, the development in Sarawak by 2030 includes residential and commercial; Native Customary Right (NCR) land; development of agricultural areas and many more.
“For residential and commercial development, the State is currently actively developing it to meet the increased demand,” he said.
He added that this is due to the increase in foreign investors that require housing for workers as well as the need for commercial areas.
“These will need the help of surveyors towards our development by 2030.
“After 2030, there may be other plans that require land measurement work because it changes according to the situation.
“That is why if we look at it, surveyors are indeed needed. This is a professional job, hence, we cannot simply measure (the land) at will,” he said.
