KUCHING: The Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment is looking at ways to make it easier for the home based local entrepreneurs to register their businesses.

In stating this, its minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan pointed out that the entrepreneurs that do not use commercial buildings had a hard time to register their business in Sarawak.

“By right, of course their homes could not be used for business purposes as it is for residence. That is why here, we want to discuss more on the matter.

“Not only about the address of the businesses but also on what businesses and form of businesses that they can operate at their homes,” he said.

He said this during a press conference after attending the Sarawak Entrepreneur Development Coordination Committee (SEDCC) meeting at Borneo Convention Centre here on Tuesday (Mar 7).

As such, he stated that for the short term, his ministry and the committee had agreed that any facilities built by the government such as ‘anjung usahawan’ will be used as their business address.

“In addition, incubators space made by several agencies could also be used as a business address but before that, we have to see the processes needed first,” he said.

Aside from that, Awang Tengah added that his ministry agreed to create a database for entrepreneurs in Sarawak.

He said it was aimed at collecting comprehensive entrepreneurs’ data while also sharing between the agencies involved for the planning and implementation of the programmes and projects.

“We have agreed on the principles of these proposals after reviewing the things that need to be followed and will be further discussed by the working committee,” he said, adding that there are 89,000 registered entrepreneurs in Sarawak thus far.
