MIRI: Datuk Lee Kim Shin has reminded parents to take the necessary precautions and concentrated effort to adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the Miri District Education Office to prevent the spread of Covid-19 when school sessions resume on Monday (April 5).
“Parents must take measures to actively teach and practise good personal hygiene for their children to emulate as well,” said the minister in charge of the Miri Divisional Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) in a statement today (April 3).
“If their children display symptoms like fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, and anosmia (loss of smell), they should bring their child directly to the nearest healthcare facility for further assessment by a medical practitioner,” he said.
In the event that either parent or household family members have been identified as a close contact to a positive case and quarantined by the Health Department, parents are advised to not send their children to school — and also inform the school of the situation — and wait for the results from the swab test.
Lee, who is also Transport Minister, said that at a briefing by the Miri District Education Office on SOPs for school on Friday, parents who are still not ready to send their children back to school should notify the school in writing of their decision.
Having said this, Miri DDMC appealed to the public to be vigilant and continue to avoid the 3Cs (closed spaces, crowded places, and close-contact settings), as well as to adopt the 3Ws (wash, wear, and warn) strategies as advocated by the Health Ministry.
“Avoid family social gatherings especially with those from different households, gatherings at workplace pantries, and confine funeral gatherings to immediate family members only. Please adhere strictly to the SOPs,” he said.
