KUCHING:  The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is never short of winnable young candidates as proven in the last state election where it fielded 24 new faces aged between 24 to 40 years old.

Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) youth chief Datuk Snowdan Lawan said there is an abundance of aspiring professionals in the candidates’ book as far as GPS is concerned for the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15).

“We place our trust in our top leaders as they have always been meticulous on the choices; they ensure with reasons and not emotions. The GPS is holding 18 MPs out of the 31 parliamentary seats in Sarawak,

“It is our mission as envisaged by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is to field and win all the 31 parliamentary seats in GE15.

“As such, the Democratic Action Party’s (DAP) ploy of fielding young blood for the GE15 is nothing new. We have preempted their move and it will be played on a level battlefield,” he told New Sarawak Tribune today.

He was commenting on the DAP’s recent disclosure that the party will place emphasis on young candidates for GE15.

When the idea of UNDI18 was first initiated, he said the GPS component parties wasted no time to engage with the youth into mainstream politics as it is the way forward.

He said the group forms the largest spectrum of the society thus they should be part of the system.

“We recognised this from the beginning. Therefore, amongst the GPS component parties we already have our youth wings like Pewaris PRS and so does the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) as well as Progressive Democratic Party (PDP),” he added.
