SIMUNJAN: Two wooden houses in Kampung Hulu Tembelu here, were destroyed by fire yesterday.
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the 2.10 pm blaze.
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from the Simunjan station were promptly despatched to the scene, some 46 kilometres away.
Firemen from Asajaya station were also deployed to assist in the firefighting effort.
By the time the firemen arrived, there was nothing much they could do to save the houses. The firefighters had to source water from a nearby pond to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby houses.
It was reported that two brothers aged 41 and 34 were occupying the second house while the first house belonging to a 74-year-old man, was unoccupied during the incident.
The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
