KUCHING: Saratok MP Datuk Ali Biju said that the country’s Attorney-General (AG) Tan Sri Idrus Harun was just doing his job and has a moral and public duty to clarify as well as explain to the public the correct interpretation of the constitution and what constitutional monarchy means within the context of the Federal Constitution.

He said this following Pakatan Harapan (PH) Presidential Council’s statement on June 27 where they had accused the AG of treason for his recent statement on the constitutional monarchy and also called for the AG to be fired.

“It is clearly mischievous of the PH Presidential Council to conveniently ignore the reason why the AG issued a statement in the first place.

“The AG clearly stated he was responding to various views, statements and opinions on the role of the monarch within the Federal Constitution swirling in the public sphere which were erroneous and misleading.

“PH and its supporters have been in overdrive lately poisoning the minds of the public with false propaganda and malicious half-truths regarding the interpretation of the constitutional monarchy.

“The AG acted well within his role to bring clarity to the matter and for this he should be commended, not vilified,” Ali said yesterday (June 28).

He said that he also finds the PH Presidential Council’s accusations wholly absurd and laughable.

“This latest accusation that the AG is guilty of treason is outrageously ludicrous, grossly misleading and yet another attempt at defrauding the public.

“Why demand he resign when he was just doing his job?

“Instead, get serious in working with the government in combating the real crises facing the country,” said Ali.
