KUCHING: Age is no longer a hindrance for participants seeking to engage in vigorous activities like the Sarawak Lifeguard Challenge 2023, which demands physical fitness and strength.

Even individuals in their 40s proved that age is just a number, as two 43-year-olds emerged as the oldest contenders among the 140 participants at the Sarawak Lifeguard Challenge 2023, organised by the Malaysia Civil Defence Force (MCDF) Sarawak at Andong Beach Campground in Santubong yesterday.

Mariana Kipli, 43, from the Tanjung Manis contingent, said that being the oldest participant gave her an extra competitive spirit.

“I decided to take part in the challenge to test my own abilities against much younger participants,” she said.

“To maintain my stamina and fitness, I regularly engage in aerobics before participating in today’s challenge.”

Jabir Kipli, also 43, was excited about experiencing such an intense event for the first time.

“As long as I am fit and healthy, age holds no significance,” Jabir said.
