KUCHING: All 25 ministries, departments, agencies and statutory bodies have given full cooperation to the state Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to ensure smooth examination of issues contained in the Auditor-General Audit Report 2016 Series 1 and 2.

Its chairman Aidel Lariwoo stated that the parties were called to give briefings on the various audit issues raised from the Auditor-General Report for 2016 regardless of the fact that most or all the issues have been resolved.

“The committee are also seeking updates of the status of the issues and the agencies’ future course of action to ensure that there are no reoccurrence of
similar issues,” he said.

He said this at a press conference after chairing a state PAC meeting at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) building in Petra Jaya, yesterday.

“The PAC looks into whether public monies are used efficiently, effectively and economically, and that elements of extravagance and waste are minimised, or better still, completely eliminated.

“The recommendations of the PAC will be tabled for the purview and feedback of the members of the state legislature,” he said.

He also clarified that the PAC report will only be laid on the table during the sitting of the state legislature and not to be confused as a matter to be debated or added as a bill so that the members can put forward their suggestions and recommendations for the house.

Aidel, who is Sadong Jaya assemblyman, further elaborated that although most of the issues raised in the audit report have been solved the actions taken by some of the agencies lack the concept of value for money and has not fully met the initial targeted outcome.

“The PAC feels that for certain agencies, they should look into the revision of either the agencies’ administration, financial or operating procedures,” he said.

Other members of the state PAC are Opar assemblyman Datuk Ranum Mina, Tanjung Batu assemblyman Chiew Chiu Sing, Ngemah assemblyman Alexander Vincent, Kabong assemblyman Mohd Chee Kadir, Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How, Telian assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo and Batu Kitang
assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang.
