The three ‘Ah Long’ gang members are detained for harassing a debtor in Desa Pujut.

MIRI:  Police have detained three persons including the leader of a loan shark gang for harassing a debtor in Desa Pujut recently.

District police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari said the suspects aged between 25 and 32 years were picked up from a house in Pujut 6 Lorong Jerami by CID officers on Saturday (July 3).

They are being detained to assist police probe into the incident.

During the arrest, police also recovered a bucket of red paint believed to have been used by the suspects to scare the victim.

A Proton Wira car, belonging to the group’s leader was also confiscated.

During a search conducted inside the house, police also found illegal substances believed to be drugs.

Earlier, police detained a ‘Ah Long’ (loan shark) for questioning following a report lodged by the victim, after the suspect came to his house on Thursday night to collect the alleged unpaid debt.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects have been operating and promoting loan services via Facebook.

The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for Criminal Intimidation and Section 15 (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Hakemal reminded the public with financial difficulties against borrowing money from illegal money lenders or loan sharks.
