KUCHING: The Sarawakku Sayang Special Aid Package announced by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg contains pragmatic strategies and will help the needy and stimulate the economy.

In stating this, Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) youth Chief Datuk Snowdan Lawan pointed out that the timely announcement of the package showed that the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government was people-centric and concerned with the situation.

“In particular, the RM250 monthly aid for six months will ease the burden of some bread winners of the B40 group. They could be general or daily paid workers or even farmers in the longhouses.

“Aid to our frontliners such as doctors, nurses, police, immigration, army and Rela (People’s Volunteer Corps) is timely because these people are directly involved and therefore exposed to infection,” said Snowdan when asked by reporters on the RM1.15 bil special aid package, yesterday.

Snowdan, on behalf of the PRS youth, conveyed his appreciation towards the chief minister and the state government for the aid given to the people.

He added other forms of aid included in the package were crucial in improving the welfare of the people.

“Waiver of fees, assessment and discounts for electricity and water bills, for example, are necessary and timely at this time when everyone is affected by Covid-19.

“Repayment deferment for SME loans is greatly welcomed for business enterprises to strategise in the next six months. This is because their fixed costs remain but turnover and profits are greatly affected,” he explained.
