KUCHING: Former Terengganu police Chief Datuk Aidi Ismail was officially appointed as the new Sarawak Commissioner of Police (CP) yesterday, succeeding Datuk Ramli Din.

The handing over of duties was witnessed by Deputy Inspector-General of Police Malaysia Datuk Pahlawan Mazlan Mansor at the Sarawak Police Contingent headquarters.

Aidi, who would be the 26th Sarawak CP, said he was grateful for the appointment.

“Despite the differences between the sizes of the states, the mission and vision of the Royal Malaysia Police Force (PDRM) remain the same as those of the Sarawak Police Contingent and Terengganu PDRM, which are to be the best safety team in the country.

“Hence, I hope that all staff including officers and members will contribute to ensuring that the safety of the community is protected,” he said.

Ramli, who was recently appointed as the Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN) director on Feb 7, will be assuming his duties on March 2.

In his departing speech, he said,”In PDRM, you cannot escape from facing changes in leading a department or a police contingent.

“I am confident Aidi will have his own way to lead the Sarawak Police Contingent to realise the vision and mission of safeguarding the well-being and safety of the community.

“Looking back to the day I started as the state’s CP on Nov 18, it has been a quick three months and I am satisfied with the support and cooperation, especially from Datuk Dev Kumar as the Deputy Commissioner of Police, heads of departments, district police chiefs, ranking officers and members,” he said.

Ramli congratulated Aidi and his wife Datin Raja Asaudat Raja Muda on the former’s appointment and welcomed them to Sarawak.

“I sincerely hope the Sarawak Police Contingent staff will give the same support and cooperation to him (Aidi) as they have given me the same,” he noted, adding that Aidi is an experienced leader and he is able to lead the contingent well.
