LIMBANG: One unique thing about Sarawak is everyone, regardless of race and religion, joins in every celebration. Batu Danau assemblyman Paulus Palu Gumbang said festivals such as Hari Raya Aidiladha served as a catalyst in uniting religions and races.

“Do continue to maintain cooperation, tolerance and hospitality among communities,” he said during a ‘Majlis Ibadah Qurban Aidiladha’ at Surau Nurul Falah Kg Kuala Awang here yesterday.

The surau’s management committee chairman Jeffery Gapar said the involvement of the nonMuslim community in the
programme was due to one unique fact.

“The residents here are of mixed blood parentage, a result of mixed marriages since the time of our ancestors – the Malay, Bisaya, Iban, etc. “Therefore, the implementation of this programme is appropriate. It will foster closer ties between Muslims and nonMuslims,” he said.
