KUALA LUMPUR: Having an eye for branded items or clothing is synonymous with fashion enthusiasts, particularly among those who keep up with the latest fashion trends.

And national gymnast Muhammad Sharul Aimy is one of them.

Poised to make his debut at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games next month, Muhammad Sharul said his passion extends beyond gymnastics as he also takes an interest in fashion and indulges in collecting branded shoes as a secondary hobby.

The Terengganu-born athlete said he sometimes sells the shoes from his collection to branded footwear enthusiasts as a way to earn extra income.

“I enjoy shopping, buying branded shoes, particularly Nike. I used to only purchase them online at retail prices.

“However, during the Covid-19 pandemic and the movement control order (MCO) in 2020, I stumbled upon an Instagram account revealing that the shoes I am wearing are regarded as valuable and can be sold at a very high price to certain die-hard fans or collectors.

“From then on, I became interested in buying and selling to branded shoe aficionados,” he told Bernama.

The Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) student, however, said that as he is currently focusing on his studies and preparations for the upcoming Asian Games, he has put a hold on the sale of the shoes.

Nevertheless, the bronze medallist of the 2023 SEA Games admitted that he also has a dream of establishing a branded clothing business one day.

“I’ve always dreamt of opening a shop selling branded clothing or anything profitable. I really enjoy business, just haven’t had the opportunity yet,” said Muhammad Sharul, who also enjoys collecting Hot Wheels toy cars as a way to relieve stress.
