KUCHING: A two-year lull while the world awaited the Covid-19 threat to subside was more than enough time for enterprising businesses to come up with new ideas.

Take, for instance, the fasting month of Ramadan this year which has seen the return of the Ramadan Bazaar which is well patronised by not Muslims but just about everyone else out to savour the array of food and drinks, all available in one place and, mostly, for a bargain too.

Business is brisk and competition among the vendors, well, let’s just say it is stiff as they jostle for customers. Improvising is the name of the game, to say the least.

Food and Beverages offered at Kawah Cafe

Kawah Cafe, located at Jalan Astana here has this year brought to fruition an idea of making a cordial in huge portions for the breaking of fast.

Offered in various flavours, each drink comes in a 30 centimeter long plastic bag!

Speaking to New Sarawak Tribune, Nazman Adi, 33, who is a partner of Kawah said they decided to call the drink ‘Air Kawah’.

According to him, ‘Kawah’ means a large pot for cooking over an open fire, and because the drink is packed in a huge plastic they named it ‘Air Kawah’.

“So, this year we wanted to make a difference especially for drinks as the restaurant offers special cooked soups.

“This drink is only offered during Ramadan, and it is the restaurant’s first time introducing ‘Air Kawah’,” he said.

He added there are three flavours for customers to enjoy namely, asam boi, coffee and milo.

Aside from that, they also sell other side dishes like pekasam ikan, pekasam udang, at a price of RM5 and ayam penyet for RM15.

They also sell a variety of soup options like beef and tendon each costing RM20. Their ‘sup kambing’ or goat soup  is also a popular item at their restaurant.
