KUCHING: AirAsia Berhad will be launching their inaugural flights between Singapore – Miri and Singapore – Kuching consecutively at Kuching International Airport and Miri Airport on Friday (April 29).

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin said the Singapore – Miri route will be available four days a week, on every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Singapore – Kuching route operates on a daily basis, where the public and travellers can visit their website at www.airasia.com for more information and to book their flight tickets.

Lee said apart from AirAsia, Scoot Airlines is operating their flight from Singapore to Miri, twice a week and Singapore to Kuching for five times a week.

Thus, it was hoped that with two airlines operating from Singapore to two locations in Sarawak, it would create more availability and choices of flight as well as more competitive airfares for travellers and tourists, he said.

“I hope that this will attract more tourists and travellers to visit Sarawak,” he said in a statement today.

With the increased in flight frequency entering Sarawak, he said, the state government has written and reminded AirAsia Berhad and other airline companies to ensure the prices of flight tickets remain reasonable, especially during the festive seasons, such as Hari Raya and Hari Gawai.

“Nonetheless, we also urge the public to book their ticket in and avoid the last-minute rush as well as the surge pricing. We are expecting many Sarawkians working and studying in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore to return home for the celebrations,” he added.

Lee also shared that he has urged AirAsia to play a bigger role in promoting Sarawak within the BIMP-EAGA region and other international destinations to bring in more tourists, business players and travellers in and out of the Sarawak – during a discussion with Airasia Berhad Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Riad Asmat last month.

Such initiative, he said, was expected to be the beginning of a stronger relation between Singapore and Sarawak as well as to boost the air connectivity to Sarawak.

He also urged the travellers to take note of the latest standard operating procedure and requirement to enter Sarawak, including – all international travellers are required to take the RT-PCR test two days prior to their departure to Malaysia.

They have to download the MySejahtera apps and to submit the pre-departure form as well as other documents, such as the COVID-19 Vaccination certificate and travel insurance for COVID-19 of not less than USD20 thousand.

For those travelling from other countries coming into Sarawak, transiting through Singapore, they are required to take the RTK- Antigen professional test upon arrival at the point of entry either at Kuching International airport or Miri airport. They will only be released upon having a negative result.
