MIRI: Two pilots and two passengers escaped unharmed after a MASwing twin otter aircraft skidded off the runway at Long Seridan airport today.

Sarawak Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin confirmed the incident which occurred around 10am.

“The aircraft was flying from Marudi to Long Seridan. When the plane was landing, it skidded off suddenly to the left side of the runway,” he said when contacted today.

As a result, the back portion of the aircraft ended up in a ditch and no injuries were reported.

When asked on the cause for the incident, Lee noted that MASwings personnel and relevant authorities are currently investigating the matter.

“My ministry will be informed with the full report once it is done,” he told.

Baram police chief DSP Jo Hang when contacted later confirmed receiving a report on the incident, but could not divulge any further information as he is still waiting for the full report.

The plane ended partly in the airport drain upon landing.

Meanwhile, Mulu assemblyman Datuk Gerawat Gala in his Facebook posting, shared about the incident and had already informed Lee Kim Shin and MASwings personnel on the matter.

“As we wait for the result of the investigation by MASwings and relevant authorities, please kindly do not speculate on the cause of the incident,” Gerawat said in his Facebook posting today.
