KUCHING: Muslim couples who want to tie the knot in Sarawak during the conditional movement control order (CMCO) period now can do so via video conferencing.

Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) chairman Datuk Misnu Tahir said application for marriage (“akad nikah”) solemnisation ceremony via online is only allowed provided the bride and groom have obtained permission for marriage from Sarawak Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) before the implementation of the MCO.

“Majlis Islam Sarawak has already agreed that Muslim couples who have applied before the MCO are allowed to tie the knot during this CMCO.

“They can get married via video conferencing with proper standard operating procedure which has been approved by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC),” he said when New Sarawak Tribune contacted him Sunday night.
