DOHA: Al Jazeera Media Network strongly condemned the Israeli occupation forces’ targeting of a Palestinian journalist’s car in Northern Rafah in the Gaza Strip on Sunday.

The attack resulted in the tragic deaths of journalists Hamza AlDahdooh and Mustafa Thuraya, members of the Al Jazeera Crew, and left fellow journalist Hazem Rajab seriously injured.

“The assassination of Mustafa and Hamza, Al Jazeera correspondent Wael Al-Dahdoh’s son, whilst they were on their way to carry out their duty in the Gaza Strip, reaffirms the need to take immediate necessary legal measures against the occupation forces to ensure that there is no impunity,” Jordan News Agency (Petra) quoted Al Jazeera as saying in a statement on Sunday.

In November 2023, the Israeli occupation forces systematically targeted Wael and his family, resulting in the deaths of his wife, son, daughter, and grandson, according to the statement.

Wael and cameraman, the late Samer Abu Daqqa, were also targeted in December 2023.

“The assassination of his son Hamza in January 2024 confirms without a doubt the Israeli forces’ determination to continue these brutal attacks against journalists and their families, aiming to discourage them from performing their mission, violate the principles of freedom of the press, and undermine the right to life,” the statement added.

Condemning in the strongest terms the ongoing crimes committed by Israeli occupation forces against journalists and media professionals in Gaza, Al Jazeera also emphasises that this alarming trend demands immediate attention and action from the international community.

“We urge the International Criminal Court, governments, human rights organisations, and the United Nations to hold Israel accountable for its heinous crimes and demand an end to the targeting and killing of journalists,” the statement concluded. – BERNAMA-PETRA
