All in the family — brothers steal the show at muscle flexing c’ship

KUCHING: It turned out to be a family affair for brothers Abdul Ramzi Bujang, Azmizi Bujang and Mohd Nurrazmi Bujang when they stole the show at the Kuching South City Classic 2023 Bodybuilding Championship held at the MBKS theatre here yesterday (Aug 20).

Abdul Ramzi and Azmizi Bujang both won gold in the Sports Physique and Athletic Physique categories respectively, while their youngest sibling Mohd Nurrazmi won a bronze in the Athletic Physique category.

Second and third in the Sports Physique category were Aflisahyir Ali and Mohd Shabli Tuah respectively.

The first runner-up in the Athletic Physique category was Daubline Timbol.

The senior Men’s Bodybuilding category was won by Mohd Afif Jamal with Farrokh Ibtisam Ting Abdullah and Gerdashlie Bodos coming in second and third respectively.

Meanwhile, Lily Nur Izzaty Ahmad took the Women’s Fitness Model category. Second was Kasma Mo and Ong Shih Ling, third.

The championship was organised by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) in collaboration with Sarawak Bodybuilding Association (SBBA) and Kuching Division Bodybuilding Association (KDBBA).

The event was organised in conjunction with the Kuching Food Festival 2023 which yesterday.

A total of 26 bodybuilders participated in the championship.

There was also a special segment where the Sarawak Bodybuilding Icon 2023 Award was given out to three personalities, namely Kapitan Desmond Thian, Douglas Jerukan Kanyan and MBKS Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng for their contributions to bodybuilding.

Thian has been involved in bodybuilding for over 45 years – as an athlete beginning in 1976; as a president of the SBBA from 2004 until 2008; and as Sarawak bodybuilding chief judge from 1992 until his retirement in 2019.

Douglas is hailed as the first Mr Sarawak winner in 1963, and before that, he had won the Mr New Zealand title in 1961 during his college days in the Pacific island nation.

Wee is the current president of the SBBA, a post he took over from Thian 2009. He has also been a vice-president of the Malaysian Bodybuilding Federation (MBBF) since 2011.

Wee accepted the award from Kuching South City Classic 2023 organising committee chairman Andy Lester Tan, who was accompanied on stage by KDBBA president George Awi William.

Representing Thian and Douglas on stage were the current Sarawak bodybuilding chief judge Oddie Grinsam and deputy permanent secretary to the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak, Desmond Jerukan, respectively.
